Jeff James
Polymer Clay Artist
Jeffrey T James was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Wright State University, where he focused on sculpture. After teaching and working as an assistant at Rosewood Fine Arts Center in Kettering, he was the Director of the Ceramics at Middletown Fine Arts Center until he relocated back to Springfield. Currently Jeff exhibits his work throughout Ohio.
Jeff's scrimshaw has been exhibited at in Yellow Springs. His pottery has been displayed the Great Lakes Medieval Faire and the Ohio Renaissance Festival. Over years he has become a skilled craftsman in leatherwork, sewing, knife making, wire wrapping and casting. Jeff's wife describes him as a Renaissance man. Jeff has been actively sculpting in polymer clay for several years, but frequently incorporates his multitude of skills into his pieces.
Jeff gets his inspirations from the mythic. He is drawn to monolithic forms, ancient alphabets and petroglyphs. He strives to capture the gesture of his characters in his figurative sculptures. The musicians are not just frozen in position, but are in the processes of creating. His dragons take flight and his goblins are mischievous.
Jeff's work can be seen daily at the Village Artisan's gallery, or at the Ohio Renaissance Festival.
