Most of these images are from a sketchbook used in Norfolk - somewhere that I go regularly to paint as it's the nearest bit of coast.  It's A5 (approx 6x8inches), smaller than I normally like to use -  a couple of the images are from a larger 11inch square sketchbook.

I grew up living by the coast and love it, though sadly I now live 100miles away from the sea.

I love the light by the sea and the difference in light between the east and west coasts, the constantly changing colours with the weather, season and tide and the wide open spaces.

In winter there are subtle beautiful colours, I almost prefer it to colours of summer.

I love the small stone harbours of Cornwall, the rocky north coast with its millions of coves, the tree lined creeks of its south coast and the wildness.  I lived there  as a child and it always feels like going home.

I also paint in Norfolk, where the light is very different and beaches are vast, backed by dunes, marshes and nature reserves.  The pools of water and wet sand and wave patterns and pools interest me.  There, harbours aren't the stone ones of Cornwall, built to withstand the Atlantic, but Staithes - muddy creeks through the marshes leading to small muddy harbours with maybe a quay but no harbour walls.
